Music Bridge not ready for prime time? - The Music Bridge does fairly well from my XP laptop, though it does sometimes skip (it must be doing buffer/catch-up). However, on two Vista systems that I have, one wireless and one hardwired, it works when I first connect to it, but then the sound cuts out completely and does not come back. I installed it in December with all of the latest firmware and software from the Linksys site. I have not gone back to see if they have anything new or to otherwise pursue the issue. I have a new Linksys wireless router with VOIP from T-Mobile.There is also a bit of quirkiness with the Music Bridge software. Sometimes when using the Music Bridge client app to adjust the volume, the volume goes mute, even though the setting is nowhere near minimum. There are other quirky aspects to the client app regarding how it works with Vista. If you want works first time, every time then don t buy this product. If you patient, hopeful, and enjoy a challenge... I wouldn t pay more than $25 for it. I m considering returning it, but I don t know if it is worth the effort.
Listening to music using the bridge right now... - Well after much trepidation (because of the negative reviews), I purchased the wireless bridge and have to say that I didn t have any problems in connecting to my wireless home network. I used the tutorial that s in the linksys forums and followed the directions to the letter. I am using Windows XP, connecting to a share drive on my home network for the music, connected the bridge to an Onkyo receiver (via CD input) and playing music using Windows Media Player. Surprisingly, the quality of the music is very good. So for $24.99 plus $5 shipping that I paid, I gotta say that it s definitely worth it.
Yes, but..... - When it works, its great, now I can play burned music on the stereo hard wired into my house. However:The RCA jacks are recessed, I had to trim plastic off of my connectors. The signal from the unit is weak. Will not work on my surround amp, and had to use the phono/mm settings and connections on my power amp.You HAVE to select the bridge BEFORE selecting a source or else nothing happens. And last but not least, I have just now discovered that it WILL NOT work with Vista. So much for using it with my new laptop.ps. Moved it back to my desktop and am now experiencing the dropouts reported by many others. Will probably have to set it up from scratch again. We ll see.
Nearly impossible to configure - Be warned that expertise in networking is not enough to make this work. The configuration wizard does not fill in the configuration the way it says it does. Therefore, even if you know what you are doing, be prepared to play with the settings for a few hours....
Works great if you know how to install it.. [ a bit tricky ] - before i bought this product.. i looked up some forums about this and mostly they say that installing this music bridge is tricky if you have no idea on networking or computer stuff... i call myself as intermediate pc user and i thought it was just all BS. by the time i got the product and installed it it was a bit confusing so i have to do a lil homework.. [searching on forums] and took me 2 days to finally get it work... now im happy with this magnificent thang! and shipping!? FAST as ever! Thanks Amazon!!
